S’Africa attacks: Nigerians lose N21m, says envoy

Nigerian Consul-General in South Africa, Amb. Uche Ajulu-Okeke, said on Sunday that Nigerians lost more than N21m Rand (1.2m) in the on-going xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
Ajulu-Okeke told the News Agency of Nigeria by phone from Johannesburg, South Africa, that the loss included looted shops, burnt shops, two burnt mechanic workshops, 11 burnt cars and two stolen cars, among others.
“Nigerians have compiled the cost of the damage to their property and it is totalling about 1.2m Rand or N21m, which will be sent to the Federal Government for further action,” the ambassador said.
She said that two of the three Nigerians who were wounded during the attacks in Durban had been treated and discharged from the hospital.
The consul-general said that she would go back to Durban to assess the situation on ground and meet with the provincial authority on the security of Nigerians in that province.
She said, “The Nigerian mission in South Africa is on top of the situation. We are working hard to protect Nigerians in South Africa.

Jonathan to hand over to Buhari on May 28

President Goodluck Jonathan will hand over power to the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on May 28, about 24 hours before the actual inauguration date.
The Minister of Information,   Patricia Akwashiki, disclosed this to State House correspondents   at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
Akwashiki said Jonathan would perform the ceremony at a dinner on the eve of the May 29 Democracy Day.
She said, “By May 28, the President intends to have the formal handover done at a dinner so that we can reserve May 29 for the incoming government.
“By May 28, we are expected to have concluded our own government and we are welcoming the incoming government.
“Also you know May 29 is our Democracy Day. So, we have activities lined up all through that week, showcasing all what we have achieved and all other things we do normally on our Democracy Day except that this year is special with the inauguration of our new

Bijelly stages fashion show

Obiageli Maduwuba, the creative director of Bijelly Couture is set to make a fiery comeback in the fashion and entertainment industry with her indigenous themed collection tagged Golibe.
In the early 2000, Bijelly used to be known within the circle but somehow, she went off the scene. She told Saturday Beats she is now back with her fashion show after her hiatus.
Partnering with her on this project, which would hold in Lagos this weekend are other brands such as Mercedes Benz, UBA and Zaron.
Bijelly said it would certainly be a weekend of fun, glamour and plenty entertainment.

Rihanna’s DJ group hopes to work with Wizkid

Over the weekend, some members of the four times Grammy award winning Jamaican seven-man DJ group, Black Chiney, who are also Rihanna’s DJ, were in Lagos courtesy of Heineken’s Green Party.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the group said that it was its first time in the country and that Nigeria has so many talents. It hinted that Wizkid is the first Nigerian artiste it would like to work with. The DJs also told Saturday Beats that their favourite Nigerian song is Johnny by Yemi Alade.
“We love the singer (Yemi) because we have seen her video. We look forward to meeting her. Wizkid, Timaya, P-square, they are all amazing artistes.
