A sexless marriage is one in which little or no sexual activity occurs between the couple. The United States National Health and Social Life survey in 1994 found that two per cent of married respondents reported no sexual intimacy in the past year.
The definition is often broadened to include those where sexual intimacy occurs less than 10 times per year, which constitutes 20 per cent of the couples interviewed. Newsweek magazine estimates that 15 to 20 per cent of couples are in a sexless relationship. Studies show that 10 per cent or less of the married population below age 50 have not had sex in the past year.
