Retirement villa
For a long time, the story of retirees has been a pathetic tale of accumulated pensions, and waiting in long queues to collect their allowances.
But good things are beginning to happen to the retired workers as they now have a relaxation centre in Lekki, Lagos. It is called retirement villa.
Situated in a serene Lekki Phase II environment, the centre was built by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials at a cost of N300m.
According to a statement by the committee, it is a place active Senior Citizens can visit daily to share quality time with one another.
It would also offer them an opportunity to engage in sporting activities as the villa has facilities such as gymnasium, sauna, massage room, tennis courts and swimming pool.
The centre is equipped with a clinic, which has a waiting area, three consulting rooms and pharmacy. The villa has 12 chalets to serve as guest suites for people who want to stay for a while at the villa at a reasonable cost. A staff quarter is built at the villa and it has male/female restroom and caretaker’s two-bedroom apartment.
It also has the main club house, which comprises reception, administrative offices, lounge/games room, restaurant/kitchen, male/female toilets, bookshops/news agents and laundry room with a 240-metre square multi-purpose hall.
“There are also external facilities such as 55-car parking spaces, paved private garden and well landscaped courtyard. The service building in the villa has generator room, water treatment plant room, security room and service yard,” the statement added.
The COWLSO Chairman, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, who is also the wife of Lagos State Governor, said the villa was not a permanent home for retired civil servants but a recreation and orientation centre.
She stated that COWLSO began the construction of the retirement villa in 2010 and completed the project this year, with the proceeds from the National Women Conference held between 2006 and 2009.
