Taiwo Jinadu
A Somolu Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Taiwo Jinadu, to 17 years in prison.
We learnt that Jinadu is the son of the Baale of a community in Bariga.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Adegoke, the accused robbed one Mutairu Idris of a Nokia phone, valued at N13, on Olokodana Street on September 13, 2013, in the Bariga area of Lagos State.
Jinadu was also accused of stealing N110, 000 and attempting to kill Idris during the operation.
Jinadu was further accused of discharging bullets and damaging the house of one Pa Mutairu Oluwole at 22, Ososa Street, vandalising property worth N55,000 during the robbery operation.
We learnt that the accused was arrested at a joint in a raid by policemen attached to Bariga Division.
Our correspondent learnt that it was during investigation that the police discovered Jinadu’s true identity.
The accused was charged with seven counts of armed robbery, attempted murder and malicious damage.
The charges read in part, “That you, Taiwo Jinadu, and others at large on September 13, 2013, around 9pm, at a spot along Olokodana Street, in front of Standard Hotel, Bariga, Lagos, did steal one Nokia phone valued N13, 500, property of one Mutairu Idris (male), and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
“That you, Taiwo Jinadu, in the aforementioned magisterial district did attempt to kill one Mutairu Idris, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 228 of Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
“That you on the same date, time and place did unlawfully threaten the lives of Idris Mutairu, Idris Kareem, Pa Kushimo Mutairu Oluwole and Serifat Lukman, the occupants of 22 Ososa Street, Bariga, by discharging loaded firearms and damaging their residential house and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 56(1) (a) (b) (2) of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.”
Jinadu pleaded guilty to the seven charges.
The magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, sentenced the accused to 17 years in Ikoyi Prison.
