Mourinho: From ‘the Special One’ to ‘the Happy One’


LONDON (AFP) – A more cautious Jose Mourinho transformed himself into “the Happy One” on Monday as he faced the media for the first time since he began his second spell as manager of Premier League giants Chelsea.

Mourinho dazzled the British press when he first joined the club in 2004, earning himself the tag of “The Special One” after describing himself as a “special” manager in his introductory press conference.

Around 250 reporters, photographers and television cameramen squeezed into a suite at Stamford Bridge in west London to witness his return but the 50-year-old Portuguese was careful to adopt a more mellow tone.

Psychiatric patient commits suicide in Calabar

A mentally unstable person, Joel Uduak, has committed suicide by hanging himself at the Federal Psychiatric Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State.

The incident, which happened around 2am on Sunday, allegedly took the medical staff by surprise as the hospital had ensured that its structures were built to make suicide impossible.

A source, who craved anonymity, said Uduak quietly left his room to commit suicide without suspicion from his roommates.

Fashola signs cremation bill into law


Following the passage of cremation bill by the state House of Assembly, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state, Monday, signed cremation bill into law, which provides for voluntary burning of corpses and unclaimed corpses in the state.

The governor, also signed two other bills into law, they are; A law to establish the Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation and that of establishing the Lagos State Christian and Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Cultists stab 19-year-old father to death

Suspected cult members killed a 19-year-old boy, Obunneke Osondu, in Pedro, Bariga area of Lagos State.

We learnt that Obunneke was killed on Saturday by members of Eiye Confraternity, two hours after leaving his home in Ayinke Street.

The native of Owerri was said to have had an altercation with the assailants who accused him of being friends with members of a rival cult, Aiye Confraternity.

Container truck crushes man, govt meat van

Tragedy struck on Thursday at Ikeja Along Bus Stop on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State, after a heavily loaded 40-foot container truck fell on a government meat van, crushed a passerby, and wounded several others.

Eyewitnesses said the truck had swerved off the road to avoid colliding with some policemen, who were chasing a motorcycle rider, before the incident occurred around 9am.

Los Angeles – Paris Jackson, the 15-year-old daughter of late pop star Michael Jackson, was rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital on Wednesday after an apparent suicide attempt, her mother, Debbie Rowe, told entertainment TV programme “Entertainment Tonight”.

Paris, the second of Jackson’s three children, had “a lot going on (lately),” Rowe told “Entertainment Tonight”.

Man steals goat, stabs father to death for not defending him




CALABAR — A 21-year-old man, Samuel Eyo Nsa, has stabbed his 78-year-old father, Chief Eyo Nsa, to death at Eseko village, Creek Town in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.

His reason: the late father allegedly refused to defend him after he was caught stealing a neighbour’s goat.

The incident happened on Children’s Day when Samuel decided to celebrate the day with a goat stolen from a neighbour, Otobong Matthew, with which he prepared pepper soup to entertain his friends.

 The Nigerian Copyright Commission has arrested one Mr. Ubong Obot for illegally transmitting broadcast signals of Multichoice (DSTV) to an estimated 500 houses in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Obot is said to have installed the DSTV signals to different homes for N5,000 and charged N1,000 per month as subscription fee.

An 18-year-old boy, Olanrewaju Kayode-Aremu, who was recently arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for stabbing his 46-year-old father, Victor Kayode-Aremu, to death has said he does not regret his action.

The native of Kwara State added that he decided to stab his father to death because he could not lay his hands on poison or a gun which he would have used to kill his father
