Drama as Kano Rep campaigns for Tambuwal

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal

A member of the House of Representatives from Kano State on Tuesday began campaigning for the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, for presidency in 2015.

Mr. Muhammad Wudil, an All Nigeria Peoples Party lawmaker, surprised his colleagues on the floor when he openly canvassed support for Tambuwal.

“I am an advocate of Speaker for higher position,” Wudil declared, as he rose to raise a matter of privilege.

Wudil’s comments also caught Tambuwal unawares as he presided over proceedings on Tuesday in Abuja.

The Speaker reacted at first by smiling when some members applauded Wudil’s remarks.

But, seconds later, Tambuwal’s countenance changed.

He began to shake his head at Wudil, indicating that he was not comfortable with his line of comments.

Wudil initially stood up to complain that some ministers were accusing lawmakers of supervising constituency projects.

He, however, started by campaigning for Tambuwal before addressing the issue for which he raised a point of privilege.

Wudil, who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Works, expressed shock that even ministers were “misinforming” Nigerians about which arm of government awarded road contracts.

Tambuwal responded by clarifying that no member of the National Assembly awarded contracts for constituency projects.

He explained that the role of lawmakers stopped at identifying the projects to be executed in their constituencies
