Journalists escape snake attack at House Of Reps Members House

Judiciary correspondents in Umuahia, Abia State capital, narrowly escaped snake attack after a meeting with a member of the state House of Assembly at his private residence.
The lawmaker, Hon. Ikedi Ezekwesiri, representing Umunneochi constituency, had invited the judiciary correspondents for a friendly parley at his house located in Isieke area of Umuahia.

The lawmaker has recently been in the news over a court case in which he was accused for perjury and presentation of forged university degree certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2011 General Election.

A journalist, who attended the meeting, told his colleagues in Umuahia that the visit almost turned tragic as the snake suddenly appeared to attack them at about 8.30pm on their way out of the lawmaker’s residence.
He said: “It was a rude shock when one of us, who first left the lawmaker’s house, screamed and we rushed out to see a big snake well positioned at the middle of the road.”
According to him, the snake dashed to a nearby bush as some natives attempted to pelt it with stones.
The journalist, who did not want his name mentioned, quoted some natives as saying that the snake suspected had been seen by some other persons in the past.
The journalist said: “We immediately thanked God for His protection as none of us was attacked by the snake. The story would have been different if one of us was attacked.”
He said: “About 10 journalists attended the meeting and the lawmaker tactically avoided explaining the reason why he invited us for the meeting, but lavishly entertained us.
