I want my siblings educated – Crippled beggar

A 15-year-old beggar, Mohammed Ismaila, is a regular face around Mile 12 area of Lagos State. Those who move between Mile 12 and Ikeja on daily basis, will, at one point or another, see him crawling on his stomach begging for alms.

He told Us that despite that begging had been outlawed in the state, he took the risk of crawling on the streets pleading for alms because he wanted to send his younger ones to school.

Ismaila, who said he was the first of five children, added that he had been on the road for almost two years.

Price of gari records 50 % rise


Eket (Akwa Ibom) - The price of gari has recorded more than 50 per cent increase in Eket area of Akwa Ibom, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Other items that also went up in the area, survey revealed, were the prices of other foodstuffs, including rice and fish.

The survey showed that a cup of gari, which sold at N30 between February and April, now sells at N70, while the cost of six cups of the commodity has risen from N100 to N200 at various markets in Eket and its environ.

2,000 flee Borno to Niger Republic



More than 2,000 Nigerians living in border villages in Borno State have reportedly fled as a result of the ongoing military operations targeted at routing insurgents from the area under the emergency rule.

The fleeing villagers were said to have headed to the neighbouring Niger Republic.

“Most of the residents of border villages of Borno have fled to Niger. About 2,000 people from Abadan, Malam Fatori and other villages are now refugees in Difa, Niger Republic,” a top security officer told one of our correspondents on Sunday.

900 CCTVs deployed in Lagos


Over 900 closed-circuit television, CCTV, cameras have been deployed in Lagos State and already supplying video footages to relevant agencies, State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Adebiyi Mabadeje, has said.

14yr old girl killed & set on fire by boyfriend because he thought she was pregnant


Shaniesha Forbes, 14, (pictured above) was killed by her 20 year old boyfriend who then burnt her body and dumped her remains on a beach just because he thought she was pregnant.

The family of the 14-year-old Brooklyn girl who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend and dumped on a beach blasted him this morning for cowardly slaying her after he thought she was pregnant.
Police had arrested Christian Ferdinand, 20, in Maine on Tuesday, where he had fled after he allegedly suffocated Shaniesha Forbes, 14, and burnt her body before dumping the remains at Gerritsen Beach.
