Chewing gum before surgery safe — Report

Chewing gum
It’s safe to chew gum while fasting before surgery, researchers report.
Patients are usually told not to eat or drink before surgery to prevent complications while they’re under anesthesia, but it wasn’t clear if the same was true for chewing gum.
This new study included 67 patients who underwent gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. About half the patients were allowed to chew gum until just before the start of the procedure, with no limit on the amount or type of gum, or duration of chewing.
The other patients did not chew gum.

Infections can cause bed wetting in children

Infections can cause bed wetting in children
Parenting is hard enough, but it becomes more complicated when a toddler who should be able to use the bathroom without any assistance keeps bedwetting. Wetting the bed can be an embarrassing issue among kids, but it’s actually very common.
According to a survey by the National Health Institute, United States, 15 per cent of children still wet the bed by age five. It quickly adds that less than five per cent of those kids do so by ages eight to 11.
Bedwetting, also known as bladder incontinence, has medical, emotional and psychological implications on the self esteem of the child if not handled properly. For instance, a child with bladder incontinence would likely be the butt of jokes from his/her siblings, friends and peers in school and at home.

Skipping sex in marriage can wreck mental health

A sexless marriage is one in which little or no sexual activity occurs between the couple. The United States National Health and Social Life survey in 1994 found that two per cent of married respondents reported no sexual intimacy in the past year.
The definition is often broadened to include those where sexual intimacy occurs less than 10 times per year, which constitutes 20 per cent of the couples interviewed. Newsweek magazine estimates that 15 to 20 per cent of couples are in a sexless relationship. Studies show that 10 per cent or less of the married population below age 50 have not had sex in the past year.

Exploitation of Nollywood stars must stop now —Clarion Chukwurah

Ageless beauty and veteran actress, Clarion Chukwura has seen just about everything there is to see in the movie industry. Because of her opinionated nature, she has weathered the storm of several controversies and more often than not, has come out on top. She is a ‘no holds barred’ personage who would rather speak her mind than give in to sentiments.
clarion-Chukwura-celeLast week she sent a write-up to Potpourri titled “A Wake up Call to Nollywood” to express her distaste at the way awards organisers are exploiting entertainers to their own selfish end.
Her words: The time has come for the Professional Guilds of Nollywood to take a unified and decisive action to stop the proliferation of award events that exploit the industry and do not add value to the practitioner/recipients” she wrote.
“From Nigeria to the United Kingdom, to the United States of America, Nollywood wannabes and smart-ass business men have jumped on the bandwagon train of exploiting inaction of the Guilds and the ignorant crave for publicity of practitioners to exploit Nollywood for the quick buck forming a different cabal of piracy.
