Put your houses in order, Aliyu tells govs

Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu

Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu on Wednesday advised other governors in the country to put their houses in order as the nation approaches the 2015 general elections, saying people will want to frighten them as the polls draw nearer.

He also told the governors to advise their appointees to put all their records straight so that they would not be caught unawares by any agency of government.

Aliyu stated this in Minna when he received the Board members of the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, led by the Chairman, Mr. George Eguh.

He noted that it was not unusual to see politicians using unorthodox means to get at their political opponents before any election.

He said, “With the way things are going now in this country, some of us may be taken unawares and then it may be too late to exonerate yourself, because people may not understand when you say the truth. Therefore, let us start now to put our houses in order.

“Time waits for no man, the earlier we start to put our houses together, the better for us in 2015 so that people will not frighten us as elections draw nearer.”

The governor warned political office-holders and aspiring politicians to grow beyond pettiness and cultivate the habit of building a strong nation instead of embarking on the destruction of perceived political opponents.

Aliyu said, “We must always think about how to build the nation, in whatever we do let us put Nigeria first because Nigeria is greater than any individual.”

He carpeted those who have criticised appointments at the FMC Bida, arguing that the criticism were unfounded as federal establishments had standards that must be followed in the employment of staff.

According to him, a committee has been set up by the government to take an inventory of all staff in federal institutions in the state with a view to ascertaining the observance of the federal character in the agencies and to dispel the fears of the host communities that they were being marginalised by these organisations.

Earlier, the Chairman of the board, Eguh, reminded the governor of the numerous challenges facing the FMCB, which, he said, had hindered the smooth discharge of its functions pointing, out that one of the problems was the inability to get the Certificate of Occupancy for the land given to the tertiary hospital to develop its permanent site.
